Highly Commended Award at 2012 Cossack Art Prize

This peice "Family Tree #2" was just awarded a "Highly Commended" Award at the 2012 Cossack Art Award. The judges Alan Dodge AM and Franchesca Cubillo described it as:
" This is a charming silhouetted work- a whimsical rendering of an eternal theme".

Welcome to This Papercut Life!

This is a site that showcases the contemporary paper cut artwork of West Australian artist Sue Codee. In her delicate paper cuts she explores narrative themes of human fragility, stories of place, people and community, while touching on personal and more universal themes. Please feel free to comment or link sites.

These delicate paper cuts are based on family, place, community, human fragility and vulnerability, and employ both personal and univeral themes. My passion for the art of paper cut has resulted from extensive travel in Asia (from the geographical isolation of West Australia, Asia is our closest and most accessible neighbour) and a need to create 'slow art' in order to 'slow life'. The handmade papercuts require an attention to detail and steady hand that create an incredibly meditative and focused state. This creates a strong personal connection to the work. The designs stem from the subconscious, from dreams and imagination and are playful musings on life. They are a happy blend of design, craft, folk art, storytelling and contemporary paper art.
